Being Involved in Our Community is an Important Value of Ours
UrbiCulture Community Farms
We were voted to become the Board Vice-President for a Denver nonprofit called UrbiCulture Community Farms. We are a multi-plot farm committed to providing food to people of all income levels by sustainably growing affordable, local food in the Denver metro area. We engage our community by educating our youth and neighbors on growing food and promoting healthy, active lifestyles, beautifying our neighborhoods with edible landscapes, and lessening the distance from farm to plate. Project Safehouse and Family Tree, shelters for women and children escaping domestic violence, are two of the nonprofit recipients who receive weekly produce from us for the three meals a day that they provide. We created a school garden at Columbian Elementary where 94% of the students are on the free or reduced school lunch program. We employ high school students to mentor the elementary students in taking care of the school garden. The students harvest the crops for the school lunch program and also host a weekly Pay What You Can Farmers market so that the community has access to local, organic and affordable produce while the kids learn business practices and the money earned goes into school programs. Additionally, we now have three community gardens in low-income areas and offer Pay What You Can Farmstands and numerous community events and classes.

Annual Habitat for Humanity Breakfast
As a member of the Habitat for Humanity's Special Events Committee, Green with Envy Interior Decorating, LLC sponsored a table for this annual fundraiser for Habitat. We had record attendance and broke every fundraising record that the Habitat ever produced at an annual breakfast. In total, over 400 people attended the event and we raised over $85,000!
Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver's First LEED Home
I was so proud to be asked to be the green designer for the first Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver's first certified LEED home. Denver's branch of Habitat already builds extremely energy efficient and green, so my job was to focus on the indoor air quality of the homes. A wonderful team worked together to build two attached townhomes that earned the U.S. Green Building Council's GOLD LEED certification!
Colorado Festival of Women
We were honored to be asked to be a part of the Colorado Festival of Women held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Festival included successful women business owners based in Colorado. It was a day full of music, wonderful speakers, food and then a fun Colorado Rapids professional soccer game!
Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Fair
Green with Envy Interior Decorating, LLC exhibited at the Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Fair in Ft. Collins, Colorado. “The Sustainable Living Fair is a solution based, hands-on, family oriented event designed to educate people of all ages and backgrounds about Sustainable Living Practices, Renewable Energy, Environmental & Social Responsibility, Natural Health, Green Building, Alternative Vehicles, Organic Agriculture, Local Economies and more.” (http://www.sustainablelivingassociation.org/thefair/) The fair was a huge success with over 12,000 people attending. Keynote speakers included Ed Begley, Jr.. There were 200 exhibitors, over 50 workshops, entertainment, food and children’s areas!
Green with Envy Interior Decorating, LLC was the only eco-friendly interior decorating firm at the fair. We were happy to be the source for “green” interiors to the 100s of people who had questions and were interested in design work that aligned with their environmentally friendly values. We met so many wonderful people! People were most impressed that 95% of the items used to decorate the booth were found in consignment stores, antique stores or were products made from recycled, nontoxic materials. In addition, we were able to build coalitions with numerous other exhibitors who all have contributed uniquely to the green movement. It was a fun and successful two day affair!
